Fake or Fact?
After researching this, it seems as though it is fake. Former President Barack Obama does not have this tweet on his Twitter account. "The Obama tweet doesn’t appear on his Twitter timeline, nor does it appear on PolitiWoops, a database of deleted tweets by political figures operated by the non-profit news organization ProPublica" (Palma, 2022). This fake tweet that caught a lot of viewers' attention is a perfect example of misinformation that is used to manipulate viewers.
Social media users are so easily manipulated into believing fake news today. Most people would have seen this tweet and immediately retweeted it with something to say, before even finding out the truth behind the screenshot. This has become such a disgusting problem in our society, especially in terms of social media and its users.
ReplyDeleteFabricated Content has not received much immediate attention because it has been widely recognized with entertainment value. Fake news and fabricated content are growing in concern, and your post is a great example of how sensitive and dangerous the media can be. This new level of fake news requires a different response due to its lack of facticity and its intent to deceive. In 2019, a similar instance occurred when an identical newspaper was fabricated from the Washington Post and were distributed throughout Washington D.C. The article claimed that president at the time, Donald Trump, had resigned. Fabricated content does not only exist in the digital world, but it can be just a damaging in both the physical and digital world. Any new that distributes and fake or fabricated content will increasingly loss its credibility. Legislators are partnering with social media platform creators to design legislation that will address the issue of Fake News without limiting people’s right to free speech.
