Left-Center Sources

Image
Left-center sources, while they contain factual information, they are filled with loaded words. "Loaded words are words that attempt to influence an audience by appealing to emotion or stereotypes" ( Left-Center Bias , 2022). These loaded words favor liberal causes, and these sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias ( Left-Center Bias , 2022). Left-center sources usually use words that favor the left. Although these sources typically contain factual information, it is always important to further investigate them. Below are sources that are considered to be left-center biased sources by Media Bias Fact Check: ABC News   left-center, high factual reporting, high credibility Apple News left-center, mostly factual reporting, high credibility Atlanta Journal-Constitution left-center, high factual reporting, high credibility NBC News   left-center, high factual reporting, high credibility  References: Left-Center Bias . Digitally Altered Pictures Pt. 2

Image
The picture above was posted on Facebook . While it looks real, some parts of this picture have been digitally altered. This picture was digitally altered to make it seem as if the people pictured were at a Donald Trump rally.  This picture was actually not taken at a Trump rally. This picture was taken at a National Socialist Movement rally in 2010 (Hudnall, 2022).  (actual picture) This Facebook post as well as the digitally altered picture reveals why it is so important to research deeper into what is posted on social media. This post did not benefit anyone, and it could potentially mislead people. References: Hudnall, H. (2022, April 7). Digitally Altered Pictures

Image
Altering or editing pictures in a way that completely changes the photo are considered to be fake. Oftentimes, people will edit an original picture or post and give it a whole new meaning.  Here is a perfect example of this: This picture was included in a tweet. This picture shows Donald Trump standing by the Oval Office desk while  Sergey Lavrov sits at the Oval Office desk. This picture looks real and believable.   Despite how real the picture above looks, it was in fact digitally altered. The real picture (below), which was posted by Donald Trump, shows Donald Trump sitting at the Oval Office desk while Sergey Lavrov is standing by the desk.  The fake post reveals why it is so important that viewers research what they read before they believe it and continue to share it. While the digitally altered picture is convincing, it is in fact not real. This fake post caused a misunderstanding and gained lots of attention. Be aware of digitally altered pictures!

Fake or Fact?

Image
This " tweet " recently surfaced. In the screenshot above, the tweet has former President Barack Obama's Twitter handle, as well as the verified Twitter icon. In the tweet, it seems like the former President is questioning Donald Trump's birth certificate. Despite the context of the tweet, it looks believable.  After researching this, it seems as though it is fake. Former President Barack Obama does not have this tweet on his Twitter account. " The Obama tweet doesn’t appear on his Twitter timeline, nor does it appear on PolitiWoops, a database of deleted tweets by political figures operated by the non-profit news organization ProPublica" (Palma, 2022). This fake tweet that caught a lot of viewers' attention is a perfect example of misinformation that is used to manipulate viewers.   References: Palma, B. (2022, April 4).                                                          Although the main concentration of this blog is bias in the media, it is also just simply spreading the news and discussing current events. One current event that has caught the attention of many around the world is the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  Since Russia invaded Ukraine, several companies have closed their doors in Russia. Companies like McDonald's, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo made the decision to temporarily close their doors in response to the invasion of Ukraine (Associated Press, 2022).  In addition to the closing of businesses, gas prices have skyrocketed. While gas prices were already increasing before Russia invaded Ukraine, "gasoline prices are pushing even farther above $4 a gallon, the highest price that American motorists have faced since July 2008, as call...
